Catherine M. Hurley
Catherine’s professional career and community service reflects her life-long commitment and contributions to the field of Arts Management and Cultural Heritage preservation both on a national scale, and as a volunteer in her Oakville, Ontario community. Oakville is located on Treaty Lands 14 & 22 of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and the ancestorial territories of the Anishinaabe, and Haudenosaunee peoples. Catherine resides within the Old Oakville Heritage Conservation District, one of the oldest heritage conservation districts in Ontario.
Her multifaceted career has involved a number of senior roles in Canada’s Cultural Heritage and Charitable sectors, and in Public Broadcasting. During her time with the Canadian public service (Federal Departments of Canadian Heritage and Communications) she contributed to national policy development and all aspects of Canadian Heritage program delivery, including large-scale cultural heritage infrastructure projects. As an entrepreneur and small business owner from 1996-2019, Catherine managed a successful 25+ year consultancy in support of the governance and business development of many of Canada’s leading not-for-profit arts, heritage, cultural industries, and charitable sector clients. She is a former Internationally Certified Professional Fundraising Executive (CFRE – 2006-2019).
Community Service & Volunteering
Her commitment to community service and volunteering has led to a number of rewarding Cultural Heritage Sector board & committee appointments, such as The National Trust for Canada’s National Issues Working Committee (2024 –) The Arts and Letters Foundation of Toronto; where she contributed to the establishment of the Foundation’s inaugural awards for emerging artists in the fields of Literature, Architectural Conservation, Music, Painting and Stage (2017-2020). As a former board member of the Oakville Lakeside Residents Association she served as Chair of the Old Oakville Heritage Conservation District Plan Working Group (2021-2023). During her time as a board member of the Oakville Community Foundation Catherine served as the Founding Chair of the Oakville Heritage Trust Committee (1999-2005), and through community partnerships initiated the Oakville Heritage Trails (100+ km) and the “Oakville Remembered” broadcasts.
A recent community partnership in 2024 initiated with the Oakville Public Library and Cogeco Media, led to the digital remastering of “Oakville Remembered”, now preserved in perpetuity on the Library’s “Oakville Images” digital portal. Catherine is also proud to have served as a former President of the Oakville Arts Council (2004-2006).
